Analytical Surveys Inc., a Colorado Springs-based provider of digital mapping and Geographical Information Systems database services, has been named to the Forbes list of the 200 Best Small Companies in America.
ASI, headed by Sidney Corder, has been in business in Colorado Springs since 1981.
The Forbes list is composed of publicly traded U.S.-based corporations whose sales for the past 12 months have totaled at least $5 million, with revenue not exceeding $350 million.
Another requirement for being considered for this prestigious list is net income in excess of $1 million for the past 12 months. ASI, ranked 188th on the list, has announced several recent contracts within the past year, bringing its new contract total to $13 million. The backlog for ASI is $40 million.
ASI’s Intelligraphics International Division won a four-year facilities mapping project from MidAmerican Energy Co., an Iowa-based gas and electric utility. The project area will incorporate 420,000 electric customers, 347,000 gas customers, and 21 service areas in both Iowa and South Dakota.
According to Corder, the MidAmerican order is the largest contract ASI has received since its inception.
ASI has also completed two successful acquisitions in the past year. The company acquired Wisconsin-based Intelligraphics International in December 1995 and ASI Westinghouse Landmark GIS, which is now known as ASI Landmark GIS, in July. ASI Landmark GIS is based in North Carolina.
Forbes listed ASI’s market value at $55 million, with $19 million in sales for 1996.
