Storage comes to northwest side

People moving into new apartments in the Mountain Shadows area will soon have a place to store their extra stuff.

Flynn Properties LLC has plans for a 724-unit self-storage facility on the 6.8 acres it recently purchased on 30th Street for $718,000.

Teresa Flynn and her husband Paul plan for their storage facility to feature Santa Fe-style with stucco pillars and wrought iron fencing. It will have the latest security and alarm systems available, as well as an on-site management team, she said.

The 724 units will be of various sizes from five feet by 10 feet to 12 feet by 50 feet. Insulated, climate controlled units will be available. Teresa Flynn said easily accessible, covered recreational vehicle and boat units will also be available.

Teresa Flynn said the location on 30th Street across from MCI is a great location because it is an area of high growth. Five new apartment complexes of at least 300 units each are under construction in the area, which translates into potential business for the self-storage market, she said.

Construction should begin in a couple of weeks with completion expected by late summer.

“We will be putting in nice landscaping to make it (self-storage facility) blend in with its surroundings, rather than stick out,” she said.

In the past, the Flynns have owned apartments. This time they decided to try something different.
