More of the airport’s “elite”-level frequent flyers live in the Monument to Castle Rock area than any other ZIP code between Pueblo and Littleton, according to the study.
Over half of the 377 people surveyed in 10-12-minute telephone interviews travel for business and leisure purposes — only 9 percent travel only for business and 37 percent travel only for leisure. Only 29 percent of respondents in the Monument-to-Castle Rock area are leisure-only flyers, the same rate for those living between Austin Bluffs Parkway and the Air Force Academy.
Castle Rock seems to be the “invisible market penetration barrier,” according to the study, because 52 percent of Castle Rock respondents had never used the Colorado Springs airport in the past year, yet 86 percent of Monument respondents had flown at least once from Colorado Springs.
However, residents between Monument and Castle Rock are significantly less likely to use DIA exclusively or “most of the time” (66 percent) compared to those living between Parker and Littleton (95 percent).
