A national research firm says the top three home builders in the Colorado Springs/Denver market are Village Homes, Pulte Homes, and Engle Homes (in order based on customer satisfaction). Pulte Homes is prominent in the Colorado Springs market.
Village Homes ranks highest in customer satisfaction in the Denver/Colorado Springs home-building market, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2002 New-Home Builder Customer Satisfaction Study, which surveyed individuals who purchased homes from 17 of the largest builders in the area.
The study, now in its sixth year, was conducted in 16 of the largest home-building markets in the United States and includes responses from more than 56,000 buyers of newly built single-family homes. Homeowners provided feedback after living in their homes from four to 18 months, on average.
“With the housing market continuing to sizzle across the United States and interest rates at the lowest we’ve seen in decades, competition in the home-building industry is intensifying,” said Paula Sonkin, senior director of the real estate practice at J.D. Power and Associates. “The amount of attention home builders pay to overall customer satisfaction can be a main differentiator for consumers.”
The study’s index scores are made up of nine factors that drive overall customer satisfaction with a builder. The most important factors include: customer service, home readiness (the timely completion of the home), the sales staff and the quality of workmanship and materials.
Village Homes’ top ranking reflects an impressive improvement over its 2001 index score. Among Denver/Colorado Springs builders, Village leads the market in more than one-half of the customer satisfaction factors, including customer service, home readiness, quality of workmanship/materials, physical design elements, design center and recreational facilities.
Following Village in the rankings are Pulte Homes and Engle Homes, respectively. Pulte receives particularly high ratings in sales staff and price/value. Engle also demonstrated strong performance in many areas.
Denver/Colorado Springs-area builders must have closed 150 or more homes in the market in 2001 to be included in the study. The new homes are located in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties.
