Small business exit strategies workshop slated

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center is offering a workshop for small business owners who want to secure a profitable end game for their existing businesses.

The workshop will include information about the steps to consider for successful exit planning, creating greater value for a business, choosing advisers wisely, creating and maintaining systems to operate efficiently, developing ideas to motivate and maintain key employees and planning how to structure the sale of a business.

The workshop is from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. May 14 at the Workforce Center, 2306 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Reservations are required.

SBA offering online Webinar about e-mail marketing

The U.S. Small Business Administration and Topica Inc. are hosting a free online webinar about e-mail marketing for small businesses from 2 to 3 p.m. May 12.

The live webcast will include:

* A checklist of best practices for e-mail marketing, inlcuing ways to obtain the recipient’s permission working unsubscribe links and posted privacy policy;

* Tips for successful e-mail selling, covering areas like effective offers, how to build a list, e-mail design, the power of confirmed opt-in, frequency and personalization;

* Resources to get started, including a carefully selected catalog of resources that can help marketers increase the effectiveness of their e-mail; and

* Stories from the e-mail retail front, including examples of how various companies have used e-mail to boost sales, recruit paying attendees and generate demand.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation gala on tap

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is hosting it’s Rocky Mountain Chapter Gala 2004 beginning at 6 p.m. on May 14.

The event will include dinner, a live and silent auction, casino games, cordials, cognacs and cigars. The evening will honor Tim and Mary Cobb for their support of the foundation.

Tickets for the event are $150 per person or $1,500 for a table of 10. To reserve a seat or a table, contact Jacque Walsh at 633-8110.

Each year more than 30,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, making them insulin dependent for life. It also carries the constant threat of devastating complications such as kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and limb amputation, stroke and heart attack.

Small Business Development Center offering workshops

The Small Business Development Center is offering the following workshops for new and existing business in May. The workshops are taught by experts and professionals from the region. Class descriptions are available at www.web.ucce.edu/sbdc.

* Get Smart about Business Insurance: 1 to 4 pm., May 11, $35.

* Marketing & Selling to the Government: 1 to 4 p.m., May 19, free.

* Basics of Bookkeeping: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., May 20, $35.

* Selecting a Business Entity: 9 a.m. to noon, May 21, $35.

Public relations society hosts development workshop

The Pikes Peak Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is hosting a full-day workshop May 21 entitled “The Complete PR Professional.” The workshop will feature case studies as well as information about topics such as crisis communications, media relations, employee communications and writing. The workshop is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Colorado Springs Wyndham Hotel and is open to the. The cost is $70 for society members and $90 for non-members.
