Photo enthusiasts invited to attend reception

The Professional Photographer’s Guild of Colorado Springs is inviting photography enthusiasts to attend the opening reception of 15 of it’s top photographers and studios from 5 to 8:30 p.m. July 15 at the Pikes Peak Center, 190 S. Cascade.

The second annual even, which is free, will hang at the center through Aug. 30. The exhibit showcases gild members’ work and varies from landscapes to family portraiture. Some prints will be available for purchase. A reception for anyone interested in guild membership is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 17.

Bear Creek hosting classical strings open house

Bear Creek Nature Center is hosting a Classical Strings Open House Celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. July 18.

The public is invited to help dedicate new exhibits and displays featuring golden and bald eagles, coyotes, mountain lions, junior naturalists and tracks through time. Visitors also may enjoy music from the Classical Strings Quartet, meet the famous Bear Creek Bear, visit the Bear Den to see a short video and go for guided hikes along the nature trails.

Pet adopt-a-thons on tap for the Springs, Pueblo

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is hosting it annual Adopt-a-thon on July 17-18 at 610 Abbott Lane, just across the street from Wal-Mart on 8th Street. All adoption fees will be reduced by $10.

Pueblo Animal Services also will be hosting an Adopt-a-thon that weekend at 1595 Stockyard Road.

Location of inventors meeting changed

The Southern Colorado Inventors has moved its informal roundtable meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. July 20 to Howard’s Pit BBQ, 3350 N. Chestnut St. There is no charge for admission.

Insurers invited to auto glass seminar

A Better Windshield is presenting a seminar for licensed insurance professionals entitled “Auto Glass Replacement and Repair for Insurers” on Aug. 12 at The Country Club of Colorado. The program is accredited by the State of Colorado for four continuing education credits and covers consumer safety issues related to proper auto glass installation, federal requirements and controlling liability risk while improving policyholder satisfaction/retention.

Cooking up solutions to end family violence

The 12th annual Pasta in the Park is scheduled for 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at The Colorado Springs School Trianon.

Proceeds from the event will benefit TESSA, formerly The Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence. Activities include a pasta sauce cook-off competition, wine tasting, a buffet dinner and a live auction.
