Dear Mr. Matejczk,
Just a short note to thank you for your editorial regarding the placement of a Wal-Mart store on Baptist Road. I don’t believe that the late Mr. Walton, founder of Wal-Mart, would want to force a Wal-Mart on the Monument community after hearing all the opposition. One need look no further then Sam Walton’s book “Made in America” where he states, “that each Wal-Mart store should reflect the values of its customers and support the vision they hold for their community.” Obviously Mr. Walton was a very insightful businessman, but more importantly he understood both the needs of his employees and his customers. Mr. Walton’s “Rule No 1: The customer is always right” is indicative of the Monument community and their opposition to this store.
I think the community and voters at large need to go to the county clerk’s Web site and review the campaign finance reports being filed by our county commissioners. A cursory review of these reports may surprise voters when they see the large number of contributions made by developers and other commercial endeavors.
The voters need to be made aware of just who is influencing the votes of their elected officials and those same officials need to be reminded that they represent a community with a very long memory.
