Utilities holding final EIRP public meeting
The fourth and final public meeting about Colorado Springs Utilities’ Electric Integrated Resource Plan is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Leon young Service Center, Pikes Peak Room, 1521 Hancock Expressway.
The EIRP is a long-term strategic plan for electric resource supply. The purpose of the meeting is to review the final draft scenarios for the plan, which will include components of the Demand Side Management and Renewable Energy Options Plans.
During the meeting, participants will have an opportunity to review each of the EIRP alternatives that will be considered for a final recommendation to the Utilities Board in September. All comments from the public meeting will be appended and included at the board meeting.
The last EIRP was completed with public participation in 2002.
Are you ready for your retirement journey?
Charlotte Maier of Wells Fargo will discuss general financial aspects of retirement, including applying for Social Security, Medicare, estate planning, retirement fund distributions and investments during a program at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Penrose Public Library, 20 N. Cascade.
Maier also will discuss fixed income investments and when annuities may be an appropriate investment. The program is free.
Biotechnology symposium slated for Sept. 24
A symposium about biotechnology and bioinformatics is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24 the Penrose House Conference Center, 1661 Mesa Ave.
The symposium will showcase research and development activities in biotechnology, bioinformatics and computational biology. Discussions will be designed to promote interdisciplinary activity and research in these areas. Attendees will include scientists, engineers, scholars and practitioners from these fields as well as others who are interested in commercial utilization of these areas, such as venture capitalists, policy makers and those with an interest in intellectual property issues.
