Cooperative Extension offering acreage management seminars

Designed to help people manage small acreages from 1 to 40 acres in El Paso County, Colorado State University Cooperative Extension will offer a series of two-hour seminars on March 10, 17 and 24 at the extension office.

Presentations will provide information to help property owners manage their resources while maximizing their proper values. The program on March 10 will focus on weed management strategies; the program on March 17 will be about entrepreneurial ideas and aspects of small acreage production; and the program on March 24 will include information about manure management and composting.

The cost of each seminar is $30. Call 636-8920 to register.

Workshop teaches about growth, community planning, design

The Partnership for Community Design is offering a six-session, interactive workshop to teach residents about the planning, design and development process, and residents’ roles therein.

The course will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, April 5 through May 17. Brief applications are due by March 11 and are available by calling 475-3040. No more than 35 participants will be admitted.

The sessions include community identity and visioning – The Comprehensive Plan, zoning and subdivision ordinances, issues in development, quality of design, design: a hands-on activity and a mock planning commission meeting.

Tickets available for annual St. Patrick’s Day Gala

Catholic Charities of Colorado Springs will host its St. Patrick’s Day Gala at 6 p.m. March 17 at the DoubleTree Hotel – World Arena, 1775 E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd.

The annual fund-raising event includes a silent auction, dinner and big-band music. Tickets are $75, and full tables are available. Call Laura Wiens at 866-6443 for more information.

Catholic Charities operates the Marian House Soup Kitchen and offers free nighttime English classes, pregnancy counseling and other services for young families and the less-fortunate.

AFA’s fifth chamber recital slated for March 29

The United States Air Force Academy Band’s fifth concert in this season’s Chamber Recital Series is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 29 at Packard Hall, Colorado College, corner of Cache La Poudre and Cascade.

The concert will feature Master Sgt. Mike Woods, percussion, and Tech. Sgt. Heike Gazetti, clarinet. The concert is free and open to the public.
