Goodwill to honor shining stars at annual dinner

Goodwill Industries of Colorado Springs will honor seven supportive businesses and four individuals at its annual dinner at 6 p.m. April 18 at The Broodmoor Hotel’s International Center.

Tickets are $40 per person or $400 for a table of 10. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 785-9200 by April 13.

City hosting neighborhood workshop

The city’s Planning and Community Development department is hosting a workshop about the neighborhood development review process from 6 to 8 p.m. April 18 at the City Administration Building, 30 S. Nevada Ave., Suite 102.

Information will be available about how neighborhood groups can become informed about proposed development projects, how to effectively participate in the city’s development review process and understanding the department’s neighborhood meeting program.

Export assistance available to food companies

The Colorado Department of Agriculture is hosting two seminars for agricultural producers and food companies about how to market products internationally.

A Branded Program seminar is scheduled for April 20 at CDA headquarters in Lakewood. Information will be available about federal matching funds programs to offset costs involved in attending foreign trade shows, advertising and other promotional expenses. Last year, 14 Colorado companies received more than $567,000 in export promotion assistance.

On April 21, Will Spurgeon, the CDA’s visiting trade specialist, will be available for one-on-one counseling and will provide tips about entering foreign markets. Companies will receive an export readiness kit that contains international marketing guides and books to start and export reference library.

PPAF hosting meeting about Web site success

The Pikes Peak Advertising Federation is holding its monthly meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12 at Phantom Canyon Brewing Co.

The speaker is Bob Shin, president of DublinBlue Internet Technologies. He will discuss options to maximize your Web site’s success, easy fixes for technical challenges, myths about the Web, search engines, simple ways to give your site a performance review and resources to keep on top of technical issues.

The cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.

CAIP hosting monthly meeting

The Colorado Association of Internet Professionals will hold its monthly meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 13 at the Rockrimmon Branch of the Pikes Peak Library, 832 Village Center Drive.

The meeting will include a presentation about search engine facts, myths and realities. The discussion will focus on Web site optimization practices and the dos and don’ts of optimization.

PRSA hosting monthly meeting

The Public Relations Society of America is hosting a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 at Tesla Educational Opportunity Center, 2560 International Circle, Room 129.

The topic of the meeting is “Promoting the Olympic Dream.” Representatives from USA Hockey and USA Figure Skating will discuss how they promote and maintain a positive public perception of their organization and its athletes, and how to utilize the media to share personal and team stories of challenge and triumph. They also will discuss their tactics for dealing with defeating and embarrassing incidents, and avoiding potential public relations nightmares.

Workforce Center hosting HIPPA business seminar

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center Business Relations Group is hosting a seminar about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26 at the center’s main office, 2306 E. Pikes Peak Ave.

The seminar, which is being presented by the Mountain States Employers Council, is tailored for business managers and owners. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch.
