As an associate vice president of the El Pomar Foundation, Gary Butterworth is responsible for the leadership and professional development of about 25 select college graduates.
He also is responsible for managing grants activity in areas of education and amateur athletics.
In 1999, as director for the El Pomar Youth in Community Service, Butterworth directed a nationally recognized philanthropy program in 121 high schools.
The program was designed to teach the teenagers about the nonprofit sector, specifically through the grant-making process. He also was a guest speaker at a Conference of Family Foundations about how to motivate and involve youth in philanthropic activities.
Butterworth received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Yale University and an executive master’s degree in business administration from the University of Denver. He also is a graduate of the United States Army War College National Security Seminar and the Leadership Pikes Peak Community Trustee program.
He is president of Colorado Youth Sports Inc., a board member of Boys and Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region, a member of the U.S. Air Force Academy Foundation and is on the council of the Foundations Membership Committee.
