Because of changes in airport security regulations last month, travelers were forced to discard items such as makeup, shampoo, shaving lotion, toothpaste, sunscreen, cologne and water before boarding flights. No gels or liquid products are allowed in carry-on luggage or purses, and a mandatory shoe screening is in effect, said Carrie Harmon, a Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman.
