Library hosting business classes

The Pikes Peak Library District is hosting the following business classes this month.

Minding Your Business, 7 to 8:30 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Penrose Library. Learn about business resources available at the library by attending a free tour before the library opens. Registration is not necessary. Call 389-8968 for more information.

Investment Tools at Your Library, 8:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at the Penrose Library. Learn to research company information and follow company or mutual fund performance. Sources will include Value Line and Morningstar, subscription databases on the library’s Web site, and other Internet sites. Call 389-8968 for more information.

Fraud recognition and prevention

Angela Morelock of BKD LLP will share her insight into the world of internal embezzlement during a seminar for nonprofit executive directors, chief financial officers and board members during two free seminars on Dec. 7.

A breakfast is scheduled from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Denver Athletic Club, 1325 Glenarm Place, and a luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Penrose House, 1661 Mesa Ave., in Colorado Springs.

Morelock will discuss the signs that management should watch for and how organizations can better protect themselves.

State offering sales tax class

The Colorado Department of Revenue is offering a free training seminar about state sales tax issues at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at 4420 Austin Bluffs Parkway.

The 90 minute seminar will include information about sales tax licenses, trade names, how to collect sales tax, distinguishing sales and use tax, and available electronic services.

No pre-registration is required and Continuing Professional Education credits are not available.

The Pikes Peak Advertising Federation is hosting a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec 12 at Phantom Canyon Brewing Co.

The speaker will be Laura Benjamin, author of “The CARLA Concept.”
