PPWC hosting networking groups, workshops

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center is hosting the following networking groups and workshops.

All events will take place at the PPWC main office, 2306 E. Pikes Peak Ave.

Job Shop: Guided Job Search: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 29 — A comprehensive program of intensive job search guidance and organization, including resume and portfolio development, job application, ads, networking, interview and negotiation.

  • Executive Group: 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays
  • Professional Group: 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesdays
  • Over-55 Job Seekers: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesdays
  • Veterans: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., first, second and fourth Wednesdays

SCORE hosting workshops for future entrepreneurs

The Service Corps of Retired Executives is hosting free workshops entitled “Should you start your own business” on the following dates:

  • May 29, East Library Community Room
  • June 19, Penrose Library Adult Meeting Room

The Penrose Library is at 20 N. Cascade Ave. The East Library is at 5550 N. Union Blvd.

The workshops are from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will include information about the rewards of starting a small business, the attributes of a successful entrepreneur, business planning (including how to determine your cash requirements), and the legal form of your business entity.

Spread the gift of reading

The Children’s Literacy Center needs volunteers to provide tutoring to one child, two hours a week for seven weeks.

The next orientation and training will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 5 and 6 at 2928 Straus Lane, Suite 100.

BBB hosting series of communication seminars

The Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado is hosting a series of seminars to help businesses improve their communication skills. Called “Sweet Talk,” the series will feature communication experts who will share techniques and information about enhancing the communication process.

The seminars are from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Adult Reading Room of the Penrose Library, 20 N. Cascade Ave. The cost is $15 for BBB members and $20 for non-members if paid in advance, and $25 for members and $30 for non-members if paid at the door.

47th annual rodeo street breakfast

The 47th Annual Colorado Springs Street Breakfast is scheduled for 5:30 to 9 a.m. June 20 at the intersection of Pikes Peak Avenue and Tejon Street.

The event is part of the annual Range Riders’ Ride, which marks the beginning of Rodeo Week and the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Days, and includes a pancake breakfast prepared and served by Fort Carson personnel, a children’s play area and musical entertainment.

The cost is $5, and children 5 and younger eat free. All proceeds benefit Armed Forces Community Services (Military Family Assistance).

Workshops for military entrepreneurs

The Service Corps of Retired Executives is hosting workshops for military personnel who are considering leaving the service and starting a small business. The cost is $15 per participant or couple.

The presentation will include information about starting a business from scratch, purchasing a franchise and buying an existing business.
