PPWFC networking groups and workshops

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center is offering the following networking groups and workshops this month.
There is no charge to attend, but registration is required at www.ppwfc.org. All workshops and networking groups are at the main office, 2306 Pikes Peak Ave.
Executive Group: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays
Professional Group: 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesdays
50-plus Job Seekers: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays
Veterans: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. first, second and fourth Wednesday
Job Match: Completing Your PPWFC Skills Profile — 10:30 a.m. to noon, July 26. You might be missing calls for jobs. In-depth guidance for registering your skills in the PPWFC statewide, job-matching system.
Job Shop: Guided Job Search — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 24. Job search guidance and organization, including resume and portfolio development, job application, ads, networking, interviewing and negotiation.
Resume “Righting”: Resume and Portfolio Design — 9 to 10:30 a.m. July 26. This session provides resume and portfolio basics, and is designed for those urgently needing a resume update or as a head-start for Job Shop.
Self Employment: The Driver’s Seat — 2 to 3:30 p.m. July 31. Explore a range of resources for starting a business, including legal issues to keep in mind, while weighing the pros and cons of working for yourself.

Junior League hosting annual CARE Fair

The Junior League of Colorado Springs, Peak Vista Community Health Centers and Memorial Health System are hosting the Fifth Annual CARE Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 21 at Peak Vista’s Family Health Clinic, 2840 International Circle, and the Dental Clinic, 2828 International Circle.
The program provides free immunizations, back-to-school physicals and dental, hearing, diabetes and vision screenings for uninsured and underinsured school-aged children. Free haircuts and school supplies also will be available.
CARE Fair serves about 450 children annually.

Fourth annual PPWFC Career Fair

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center is hosting its fourth annual Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25 at the Doubletree Hotel, 1775 E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd.
The event is for all job seekers. Companies and organizations that plan to attend include Add Staff, Boecore, The Broadmoor, the City of Colorado Springs, the Colorado Highway Patrol, Comcast, Community Education Centers, Express Personnel, King Soopers, Modern Woodmen of America, Northrop Grumman, the Pikes Peak Library District, Safeway, various trade union, the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force Reserves, USAA Insurance Co., Westwood College, Werner Enterprises and World Financial Group.

SCORE hosting workshops for entrepreneurs

The Service Corps of Retired Executives is hosting a free workshop entitled “Should you start your own business” on the following dates:

The workshops are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will include information about the rewards of starting a small business, the attributes of a successful entrepreneur, business planning (including how to determine your cash requirements), and the legal form of your business entity.
Attendees also will be provide perspective about the risks and types of activity involved with owning a small business, the initial planning that should be done by anyone considering starting a small business and issues to consider before launching a business.
