If you’re wondering why the speed limit on some stretches of I-25 through Colorado Springs is still 45 mph even though it appears the COSMIX construction is finished, you’re not alone.
Rockrimmon Constructors spokesman Kyle Troxel said highway officials have been overwhelmed with questions and complaints about the lowered speed limit that was dropped from 55 mph during the heavy highway construction.
But, despite the absence of large construction equipment and barricades, COSMIX work is not complete.
Nighttime work is still being done on highway medians and shoulders, so the reduced speed limit will remain until Aug. 31 when the work is scheduled to be finished.
However, Troxel said the large number of complaints have prompted workers to speed up the work in an attempt to complete it earlier.
