Can’t an employee get a little appreciation around here?

Filed under: Daily News | Tags:,

Most Americans who leave their jobs do so because they just don’t feel appreciated.

That’s what the U.S. Department of Labor says.

Survey takers there said 64 percent of Americans who leave their jobs do it because they’re not feeling appreciated.

Furthermore, a Gallup poll that found that 70 percent of Americans say they receive no praise or recognition in the workplace.

Are we on the verge of an unappreciative epidemic, or are we seeking too much praise for simply doing our jobs?

  1. I agree.
Most workers would like a bit of recognition for a job well done, once in a while.

  2. Yup, I work for a company like that. I’ve built special tools to make our team more efficient only to have a supervisor tell me to stop because it’s not a company resource. Consequently, they will be filling my position as soon as I find another job outside the company.

  3. I have worked several jobs in my career life and the companies that did appreicate their employees, gave me a reason to remain. But many of the jobs I had didn’t give enough appreciation caused me to search for another job. I would rather gain a pat on the back for a job well done, then get a raise. Happy employees gives progress to a company. Unhappy employees can distroy a company. Employers should appreciate the people that make their company productive.

  4. Unfortunate, yet true! Most companies do not understand how to motivate and utilize the talent present in their workforce. Blame the fact that managers are forced to worry about profits more than whether the staff is happy or not. The cost to refill a position is a hidden one and companies often don’t realize the lasting effects. Loss of productivity, morale and reputation can take a great toll on any company (big or small.)
