The HoneyBaked Ham Co. is celebrating 50 years of business this year – and regardless of how you feel about ham, half a century of family-owned pork sales is worth noting.
The business was started in1957 with $500 by Harry J. Hoenselaar, who developed a unique curing method that featured a sweet and crunchy glaze. He opened his first store in Detroit, and it still exists.
Today there are more than 400 locations nationwide, and the company employs Hoenselaar’s third-generation descendents.
There are 12 HoneyBaked Ham stores in Colorado and one in Colorado Springs.
