Wells Fargo names new regional president

Steve Helbing is the new regional president for Wells Fargo’s Southern Colorado region.

He replaces Gene Sullivan who was promoted in August to regional vice president of commercial banking in Colorado and Wyoming.

Helbing comes from El Paso, Texas where he was Wells Fargo’s regional president for Border Business Banking and retail stores in Southern Arizona.

Helbing, will be based in Colorado Springs and will manage Wells Fargo’s Retail Banking and Business Banking.

He will lead a team of more than 440 employees at 23 locations.

During his 32-year career, Helbing has worked in and managed accounting, banking finance, consumer and commercial credit, financial analysis, commercial, oil and gas and agribusiness lending and sales management.

Helbing’s financial services career began in El Paso at Southwest National Bank. In 1981, he moved to Midland, Texas, and worked at First National Bank, then in Odessa, Texas, at InterFirst Bank. In 1989, he transferred to El Paso. Helbing joined Norwest Bank El Paso in 1997 as Business Banking manager and a year later was promoted to president.
