The El Paso County Environmental Services Department has acquired nearly 114 acres of land to be used for open space, trails and parks.

The land is adjacent to Latigo Trails Subdivision northeast of the intersection of Woodmen and Meridian roads.

El Paso County’s land development code requires developers to dedicate land or fees for regional parks, trails and open space. RMBG, L.L.C. agreed to provide the county with 37.42 acres from Latigo Trails Phase 1 (west), 65.64 acres from Phase 1 (east) and 11.26 acres from Phase 2.

The Environmental Services Department plans to use some of the land for the creation of wetlands under the Wetlands Umbrella Mitigation Banking Program. These wetlands could then be used to offset losses of wetlands associated with upcoming transportation infrastructure projects, thus ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Federal Clean Water Act.
