Shhh. Don’t let your boss know it’s Cyber Monday – the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday that Americans go to work and do their holiday shopping online.
Even though the management might frown on it, more and more people appear to be using the day to shop while on the company dime.
This year, 68.5 million consumers said they plan to shop online from work. That’s up from 60.7 million in 2006 and 59.0 million in 2005, according to Shop.org.
Shoppers – er, workers – it seems are tantalized by special online promotions from retailers.
About 72 percent of online retailers are planning a promotion for Cyber Monday, up from 42.7 percent just two years ago. Promotions include one-day sales as well as free shipping on all purchases.
Last year, Shop.org launched www.cybermonday.com, which compiles the best deals and promotions from more than 550 retailers.
