There are professional trade groups for almost any type of organization. Retailers have the National Retail Federation. Nurses have the American Nurses Association, and so on.
But, now an international group of forward-thinking individuals has created an organization that in some way matters to us all – The World Toilet Association.
While it may sound humorous, the group has a serious mission, to provide clean toilet facilities to the some 2.6 billion people worldwide who lack access to proper restrooms, provide for urgent sanitation needs after natural disasters and raise awareness about technology that improves toilets.
Still, the novelty of it all hasn’t escaped the WTA.
During its inaugural conference this week in South Korea, international delegates and U.N. representatives welcomed each other while percussionists beat out celebratory rhythms on toilets.
