The El Paso County Department of Human Services has applied to receive $492,786 in Community Services Block Grants for 2008 and 2009.
The federal CSBG grants are awarded annually to provide county emergency and self-sufficiency services to low-income families.
The Pikes Peak Community Action Agency and the Salvation Army’s emergency shelter will provide those services for the DHS.
DHS spokeswoman Linda Crawfis said she’s certain the county will receive the money.
“It’s almost a foregone conclusion,” she said. “All you have to do is apply and show you’re going to use the funding for emergency and self-sufficiency assistance and you get the funding. We’ve never been turned down before.”
