The Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences has opened a health clinic for city employees.
The goal is to lower health insurance claims for the city, while also giving nursing students the opportunity for hands-on learning.
The clinic is designed to assist with acute and episodic health care needs, as well as wellness promotion, weight loss and smoking cessation.
Nursing faculty and students at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will operate the clinic, which provides the students with experience under faculty supervision while providing patients a convenient, low-cost alternative to visiting a physician. The nurse practitioners will provide referrals when necessary.
The clinic, which operates 40 hours a week, is based at the City of Colorado Springs Administration Building, 30 S. Nevada Ave.
Beth-El faculty operated a wellness clinic for employees of El Paso County until December, when UCCS decided not to renew its contract. Many of the university faculty and staff members who worked at the county-sponsored clinic will now work for the city-sponsored clinic.
