Online book buyer expands

Powell’s Books has purchased used books from its customers for more than 30 years, but the Oregon based company has experienced more volume during the past six months than at any time in the company’s history.

Powell’s online book-buying program has grown 40 percent since January, when it introduced payment via PayPal.

The company’s online buying service allows consumers to enter the International Standard Book Numbers of their books into a field provided at Powell’s then offers a bid for each book it is willing to purchase and provides a postage-paid shipping label once the bid is accepted.
