AAA Colorado reports that travel to Hawaii – one of Coloradoans’ top five annual getaway destinations – has become more affordable – due in part to the overall economy.
The biggest savings this year can be found in Maui or Oahu where the average price for hotel and airfare from Denver for two people has decreased 28 percent to about $4,663, compared to 2008. Even better, a two-week stay on Maui will cost only about $4,663. Honolulu will run about $2,228 based on rates calculated for spring 2009 travel, said Sandra Barnes, director of travel services.
The Big Island of Hawaii, site of many coffee plantations and upscale resorts, remains the most expensive, decreasing only 1 percent for a five-night stay to $3,276 per person.
