City officials have set up an account for donations to keep the Julie Penrose Fountain and the Uncle Wilber Fountain operating this summer.
City budget cuts eliminated $4.6 million from parks and recreation, including all of the operating money for the two fountains.
The total cost to run the two fountains from Memorial Day to Labor Day is about $50,000. The Hill Foundation and Bristol Brewing donated $35,000 to repair and operate the Uncle Wilber Fountain.
Tax-deductible donations can be sent to: City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services – c/o Fountains, 1401 Recreation Way, Colorado Springs, CO 80905-1975.
