On April 21, Manitou Springs City Council approved an ordinance to start charging to park in the lot at the base of Barr Trail.
Just how much it will cost to park in the lot is uncertain. The issue must go before the city’s parking board, which will set rates.
City Planner Michelle Anthony said the ordinance also allows the city to put time limits on parking at the trailhead.
The parking fee will begin sometime this summer, and probably will require cash deposits, Anthony said.
“We’ll start out low tech, and we hope to be able to upgrade as time goes on,” she said.
The fees will be used for managing and improving the lot.
