Despite missing an earlier deadline, both of Colorado Springs’ hospitals have agreed to provide money for community detoxification services.
Both Memorial Health System and Penrose-St. Francis Health Services will help pay for construction of a new El Paso County detox center.
The original center, Pikes Peak Mental Health’s Lighthouse, closed in February because there was no money to sustain the program.
Penrose’s will give $170,000 a year, and Memorial will give $400,000 a year to support the program Memorial’s amount is larger because the hospital receives more patients who need the services in its emergency room.
The agreement follows the proposal of Sheriff Terry Maketa, who wants to include the detox services in a new detention facility which is scheduled to open in the fall.
