Vets coming to Springs for canine stem cell training

Veterinarians from across the country will be in Colorado Springs May 29.

They’ll be in town to attend a Stem Cell Boot Camp training session, led by local veterinarian Dr. James Gaynor of Peak Performance Veterinary Group, 5520 N. Nevada Ave.

Stem cell therapy is used to treat dogs with debilitating arthritis and orthopedic injuries. Veterinarians remove a dog’s fat, isolate stem cells from it and injects them into an injured area, which allows pain-free movement, researchers say.

The developer of the therapy, Bob Harmon, will assist Gaynor with the training.

After the session, the vets will be certified to use the procedure.
