Planned Parenthood: not just for women

Planned Parenthood is normally thought of as a women’s clinic – but the Rocky Mountain region is reporting a 22 percent increase in male clients during 2007-08.

Only 6 percent of the organization’s patients are men, but the guys are visiting the clinic for health and reproductive screening – AIDS testing and diagnosis, as well as testing for sexually transmitted diseases, cholesterol and high blood pressure tests.

In the four-state region – Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada and New Mexico, clinics saw 9,222 men last year.

Planned Parenthood also offers colon and testicular cancer screenings, testing and treatment for urethritis and routine screenings for sickle cell anemia and tuberculosis.
