Cross-country cyclists making Habitat stop in Springs

Thirty cyclists riding across the United States with Bike & Build Inc., a national affordable housing nonprofit, will be rolling into Colorado Springs July 2 to help build a house.

The cyclists are traveling from Nags Head, North Carolina to San Diego, California to raise money and awareness for affordable housing causes. They stop in towns along their route and help with housing construction that is in progress.

The riders raised $151,000 to finance their trip before leaving the east coast on May 17.

They are scheduled to arrive in San Diego July 18. By the time they reach Colorado Springs, they will have traveled 2,109 of the 3,513-mile trip. During their time in the Pikes Peak region, the riders will be hosted by Sunrise United Methodist Church.

Bike & Build sponsors eight cross-country biking trips each summer. The 18- to 25-year-old riders see and experience the affordable housing need throughout the country. For more information contact Jenny Trawick at Pikes Peak  for Humanity, 475-4800 or visit www.bikeandbuild.org
