New state E.D. director on job creation
New state economic development director Don Morostica talked to the Denver Post about his ideas for creating jobs and finding ways to lure business to Colorado without using incentive money.
He said he’s confident the state, which he said has fewer incentive resources, can find createive ways to attract big companies to Colorado.
Boulder space incubator has lift
The Boulder County Business Report says the eSpace: The Center for Space Entrepreneurship, which was created during January, has added new mentors and chosen its first three companies to incubate.
The University of Colorado and Louisville-based nonprofit organization is intended support entrepreneurship and work force development in the space industry.
The House of Representatives recently approved $2 million in funding for the center, but it must also be approved by the Senate and signed by the president before it’s finalized.
U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., who pushed for the funding, said the money would come through a Department of Defense appropriations bill in fiscal year 2010.
Ball to ship WISE satellite
Broomfield-based Ball Aerospace is readying to ship a NASA satellite that was built in Boulder.
The satellite, the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer, was inspected and tested Aug. 4.
WISE is scheduled to launch during December.
It is designed to map space in the mid-infrared spectrum by taking more than a million photos during its seven-month mission.
