Bicyclists will not be allowed to enter the U.S. Air Force Academy through the North Gate because of a construction project that began Aug. 12 and is scheduled to end Oct. 11.
Because of safety concerns with ongoing construction on North Gate Boulevard, all bicyclists attempting to enter the installation will be directed to the Santa Fe Trail or South Gate.
“The North Gate is down to two lanes of traffic – one going westbound and the other heading eastbound,” said Master Sgt. Samuel Carey, assigned to the 10th Security Forces Squadron. “With the narrowness of the roads, combined with heavy equipment like pavers and milling operations, it’s not safe for bicyclists to ride along those roads.”
