Great article covering faith-based investing!

You may not want to believe this, but if you have any money in five of the largest, most widely used mutual funds, your values are probably being violated. In fact, I’ve researched, studied and examined 5 of the largest equity mutual funds based on their reported holdings and found that on average 58.8% of the companies being bought failed one or more of the screens used by most faith-based investors (as of August 2009).

What does it mean to be an investor with strong moral values and convictions?

Most faith-based investors look to avoid investing in companies involved in immoral activities. Take a look and you’ll see that on average…
• 19.7% of the companies in these mutual funds are supporting Planned Parenthood, performing abortions, and/or funding embryonic stem cell research!
• 10.3% of the companies in these mutual funds are involved in producing, distributing, and/or promoting explicit sexual materials.
• 12.4% of the companies in these mutual funds are involved producing, distributing, and/or promoting anti-family entertainment.
• 56.2% of the companies in these mutual funds are offering same-sex benefits, and/or actively sponsoring, promoting, and endorsing homosexual activities.
• 1.3% of the companies in these mutual funds are involved in Tobacco and Alcohol production and distribution, and/or gambling.

Thanks,

For those interested in reading more from Chuck Maher, he writes a monthly column for The Colorado Catholic Herald called "Living God's Gifts." Just type in the column name in the search box and you can access all of his columns. He also has recorded many of them as podcasts for a local Catholic radio station, KFEL-970 AM. Much of that audio is archived on the "Audio/Video" link of the Heral Web site... www.coloradocatholicherald.com.

Thanks for featuring Mr. Maher!

I agree with Christians not profiting from abortion! Remember the scandal when it turned out doctors (I think it was the AMA) were investing in tobacco companies? For shame.
