In response to a vacancy created by the departure of KB Toys last year, Toys R Us plans to open about 350 “pop-up” stores or kiosks in malls throughout the country this holiday season.
The Associated Press reported that this is the first time the company has opened such stores to reach customers for its busiest time of year. About 80 of the stores will be in shopping malls, and more than 260 will be shops within Babies R Us locations.
There’s no word yet though whether Springs shoppers could see the kiosks in The Citadel or Chapel Hills malls.
Corporate officials decided to open the pop-up locations, in part because the weak economy had enabled the company to get some good deals on temporary leases, but location was the primary factor in selecting space.
In Colorado Springs the company operates a stand-alone retail Toys R Us store and a Babies R Us store, both near The Citadel.
A Chapel Hills Mall spokeswoman said management had not been contacted by the toy retailer to discuss a temporary location.
