CC grads have close ties to Obama administration

Colorado College graduates have some close connections to President Barack Obama.

A fifth CC graduate has been nominated by Obama for a position in his administration.

Harris Sherman, a 1964 graduate of Colorado College, was nominated to serve as agriculture undersecretary for natural resources and environment.

Sherman is executive director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources.

Other graduates working for the president include Ken Salazar, 1977, secretary of the interior; Jane Lubchenco, 1969, head of the National Oceanic and Atmostpheric Administration; Marcia McNutt, 1974, director of the U.S. Geological Survey; and Lori Garver, 1983, deputy administrator of NASA.

And 2008 graduate, Aaron Gutierrez, is an intern in the office of legislative affairs at the White House.
Born and raised in Pueblo, Colo., Gutierrez was also a Fellow at El Pomar Foundation.
