Colorado College students and staff can now rent Hertz cars, which are kept on campus, by the hour or the day.

Colorado College and Hertz have teamed up to offer an environmentally friendly car-sharing program.

Faculty, students and staff at Colorado College can join Connect by Hertz and rent either a Toyota Prius or a Ford Escape by the day or hour. Cars are parked on campus and accessed by “smart cards.”

Once people join the car-sharing program, they can also access vehicles across the country or in Paris or London, Emily Wright, of CC’s office of sustainability said.

Car-sharing programs are cropping up around the country and on a number of campuses. Wright said the two main uses of the rental cars at CC will likely be for running daily errands or providing access to the outdoors.

Other states and campuses that offer Connect by Hertz include New York, New Jersey, Pepperdine University in California, Ohio, University of North Texas, Washington D.C., Fairfield University in Connecticut, Boston and University of Arizona.

Rates start at $8.50 per hour. The price includes insurance, gas, a GPS, 180 miles per day and roadside assistance.

To check out the program, visit the Connect by Hertz Web site.
