Mortenson Construction has been selected as the design-builder for the $27.3 million Wilderness Road Brigade Battalion Headquarters at Fort Carson.

The project will house one large brigade, one medium battalion and five large battalions providing space for administrative and command operations. Construction of the 138,000-square-foot facility will begin during February 2010 with completion planned for February 2011.

Vice president Bob Hansen said the company will pursue Leadership in Environment and Energy Design gold certification for the BBHQ project – above and beyond the requirement of LEED Silver.

The new building’s energy efficient and sustainable features will include roof-top mechanical systems for extra interior square footage; utilize a solar water heating system; use of a precast concrete exterior for durability and blast resistance; implement an accelerated schedule in order to deliver the project early; and deliver a proactive site coordination plan.
