Now we learn the City has a $17 million slush fund? It shouldn't be too hard to put up 350K per year for the venerable old Courthouse and Pioneers Museum. How about it, Mike Anderson? Maybe the City could roll the annual expense into its recently issued COPs for Lionel's wet dream at 27 S. Tejon St.

Which of course brings up the age-old question: If you're standing in the middle of a city where people listen only for themselves, can anyone hear you scream?

Does the city council really think that it's to the city's advantage to have a building sitting shut down, collections deteriorating, rather than sharing the ownership with the county? Like, the city doesn't have ENOUGH parking lots and disused buildings? makes ya wanna scream..

Neither the City nor the County has a good record about taking good care of the buildings or providing revenue-positive management. Thus they leave the taxpayers at risk of paying for various bureaucratic hobbies instead of sound, worthwhile community frills.

The County failed at properly maintaining the Pikes Peak Center physical plant and competently booking its events. The City has improperly maintained the Pioneers Museum exterior and interior and also, in my opinion, allowed it to operate as Politically Correct propaganda agency. I walked the grounds this forenoon after dismissal from Jury Duty and again was disappointed in such a blatant display of poor management. Plus, Those of us who were interested in opening the Spaulding Cave in Garden of the Gods as part of the Sesquicentenniel observances and were refused by propagandists at Parks Department. Their shenanigans now place City Council at risk of litigation over Constitutional violations. Both City and County should consider those future liabilities.
I oppose any further incidents of cedeing museum futures to alleged "Native American" "Authorities". Parks Department breached church/state Constitutional boundaries in their recent decision to reject our request, and they also dilly-dallyed through the warm months on it which throws our project into difficult-if-not-impossible circumstances. There is much more to the story.

In polling my acquaintances of indian ancestry, I find them little interested in tribal activism. I'd guess there are probably at least 100,000 such persons in the region. And I'd guess that most of them voted against the recent property tax increase. City and County elected officials would do well to keep this in mind. I can do very well without casino and gambling money at work in favor of politicians and bloated bureaucrats.

I suggest they tour the low-budget museum at Limon. They built a large energy-efficient steel building as center-piece of a complex which includes the old rail road station and several outbuildings plus a few box cars for the saddle collection. It's a marvelous example of thrifty creativity, in contrast to the gas hog PIoneers Museum. And I'm not convinced that Pioneers Museum interior lay-out is ideally suited for museum purposes or repository purposes. That's a factor worthy of extensive review.
How about a public/private operation for the gorgeous old relic?

There has got to be a way to keep these two kids from fighting like 11 and 12 year old siblings. Their behavior is exactly what makes voters question their honesty. Really, if they can not talk to one another let alone trust each other, how can we trust them (and why should we). There is middle ground here and a way to regain the voters confidence. It is called honesty, and they both need to use it more regularly with each other and us.
