Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter announced today that he won’t run for re-election this fall.
In a press conference at the capitol, Ritter said he intends to spend more time with his family.
Considered a rising star in the Democratic Party, the first-term Democrat was elected during 2006 in a pivotal swing-voting state.
Pundits say that Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Andrew Romanoff, a former state legislator, are among the potential Democratic candidates.
Two Republicans are seeking the GOP nomination: Former congressman Scott McInnis and businessman Dan Maes.
