As the economic hovers on the verge of recovery, it’s a message any community would be glad to hear: new jobs are coming to town.

Fort Lauderdale-based PRC senior vice president of client services Mabel Rodriguez was in town this week for a press conference to announce the company’s plan to hire up to 225 new employees through second quarter 2010.

The call center company with a global reach currently employs several hundred people at its Tiffany Square facility at 6805 Corporate Drive. Its local operation opened for business during 2007.

“Our business here is primarily in-bound – mostly sales calls for one of the country’s largest credit card companies,” Rodriguez said.

While she admitted the Pikes Peak region is a “highly competitive environment” for hiring, the also stressed that PRC was very interested in maintaining a presence in the market.

Job seekers are invited to apply at the firm’s headquarters near the southwest corner of the intersection of Interstate 25 and Woodmen Road.

Mike Kazmierski, CEO of the Colorado Springs Regional Economic Development Corp., joined PRC representatives at a press conference Thursday to make the announcement.

PRC’s job growth in Colorado Springs is welcome news, especially given the current challenges facing our economy,” he said.

In addition to expanding its workforce, under the auspices of “PRC Community Cares,” the company also announced that during the coming year, PRC employees will donate a total of 1,000 volunteer hours to a dozen local nonprofit organizations including: Care and Share, Pikes Peak Family Connections, The Children’s Literacy Center, TESSA and a number of other community and military family programs.

“We aren’t issuing an official challenge, but we’d be delighted if other Colorado Springs companies would like to join us in helping our community,” Rodriguez said.

PRC is one of 43 inbound and outbound call centers in the region. In addition to sales, the company also handles customer service representation, risk management, service upgrades and a number of other functions for its client companies.
