A Colorado Springs charity has landed in Port-au-Prince, ready to supply medical treatment to victims of last week’s earthquake.
The 10-member team from Mission of Mercy landed in the devastated country Tuesday, and is being led by Dr. David Beyda and is coordinating with other mission groups in and around the country. Two doctors, seven nurses and one support staff are on the team.
The group is operating a street clinic in the middle of Port-au-Prince, said spokesman Rick Mitchell. The team will be there through the weekend. They entered the country on behalf of Mission of Mercy Haiti, an organization they helped build medical clinics in Haiti several years ago.
Beyda is a pediatric critical care specialist at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and has more than 30 years medical mission experience. He returned from Haiti last November.
The group is operating largely on donations, Mitchell said.
