$7.5 million Broadmoor project under way

During a time when many hotels have put renovation plans on hold, a $7.5 million room and meeting facility project is under way at The Broadmoor.

The renovation project centers around Broadmoor West and the West Tower.

“There are operational upgrades that we budget for on an annual basis, but these are really owner-funded capital improvements,” said Director of Facilities Terry McHale.

Three key projects will be included in the renovation, which managers are hoping to complete by April 11.

The first is a $5.5 million furnishings, furniture and equipment upgrade for 148 guest rooms and suites in the West Tower.

“The rooms were actually in excellent shape, but the new décor, the furniture, carpet, drapes and other improvements are absolutely beautiful,” he said.

The second is the $1.3 million gutting and renovation of four lower-level meeting rooms and a former exhibit hall in Broadmoor West. By early April the areas will have been transformed into pre-function space that opens into newly redecorated meeting spaces. All lobby areas in the hotel will also receive $600,000 worth of new carpet and furnishings.

Finally, the West Lobby Bar will be renovated to include a new outdoor patio with table seating and a new look, inside and out.

“With the exception of new main floor carpeting in the West Tower and the lobby bar renovation, we’ll have everything done by April 11. The following day, every inch of space in the hotel will be in use for this year’s National Space Symposium,” McHale said.
