Holmes to discuss progress with homeless camps
About 200 people have been removed from homeless camps along Monument Creek.
Nearly 125 have been placed in shelters and homes, said Homeward Pikes Peak Executive Director Bob Holmes.
Holmes will hold a press conference this afternoon to discuss the process of moving people from the camps and introduce programs aimed at addressing homelessness in Colorado Springs.
Among the announcements:
- Homeless service providers will be at the City Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to offer information about how to get off the streets.
- An introduction to the Housing First program that’s designed to treat the chronically homeless – people who are mentally ill or substance abusers. The program provides housing and intensive case management.
- The unveiling of a homeless prevention program, called Rapid Re-Housing, which will provide assistance for 200 families who are homeless or are threatened with being homeless.
