The number of commercial bankruptcy filings has increased dramatically across the nation.
During 2009, commercial bankruptcies jumped to 117, 659 compared to 77,638 during 2008, according to an Equifax Inc. report. The lowest year on record was 2006, with only 32,293 bankruptcy filings. The report included Chapter 7, 11 and 13 filings.
The Denver/Aurora area ranked fifth nationally for the highest number of commercial bankruptcies.
Although aggregate numbers are high, the rate of increase is slowing.
Nationally, the areas with the highest filings last year were Los Angeles, Riverside/San Bernardino, Sacramento, San Diego/Carlsbad/San Marcos and Denver/Aurora.
