Tax day draws protesters

It’s tax day – and that means lots of protests against the size of federal government.

More than a dozen protests are planned across Colorado today to mark April 15, the day most federal income taxes are due.

Some of the biggest rallies will be outside the state Capitol and in Fort Collins, where 2006 GOP gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez will talk to members of the Tea Party of Northern Colorado.

Tax day protesters generally fear the nation is headed the wrong way and want to promote a return to conservative principles and smaller government.

Locally, the El Paso County Tax Day Tea Party is planned for today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Acacia Park in downtown Colorado Springs. Local organizers include The Constitutionalist Today, The 9/12 Pikes Peak Patriots, the Tea Party Patriots, and KZNT 1460 AM.
