Penrose women’s program earns HealthGrades distinction

Penrose-St. Francis Health Services was named to the top 5 percent in the nation for the second time, according to HealthGrades, an independent health care ratings organization.

The study evaluated 16 women’s medicine, cardiovascular, bone and joint health treatments for 2006, 2007 and 2008, using information from the Medicare program.

Penrose is the only provider in Colorado to receive the distinction.

Penrose was among 165 nationwide top performers. HealthGrades studies all 5,000 of the nation’s nonfederal hospitals and awards them based on mortality rates and other information provided to the federal government.

Penrose does not pay to receive the award, but it does pay to use the HealthGrades logo on its advertising and marketing efforts. The hospital also pays HealthGrades for some consulting work.
