Correction to:

Lastly, City Fathers, get more Primary Industries in Colorado Springs. We’re tech and defense heavy. If thost industries face hard times, so does the city. What can you do to diversify in the area of primary industry? Bring more to town and your tax revenues will increase with having to increase taxes.

should read "without having to increase taxes." Sorry for the typo.

Should we point fingers, or look for solutions? Lawsuit? Who's going to pay the judgement? You, me, and the other hapless tax payers in our community.

There are two possible solutions to the city budget crisis, raise taxes or reduce costs. My family, your family and all the other families in our nation face the same decision. Tighten the belt, or figure a way to raise revenue. So what's it going to be?

Mr. Martinez says crime has increased in his neighborhood since traffic lights were cut. Mr. Martinez is faced with two choices: accept the cuts, or get his community to pony up the money to keep his neighborhood lit. My neighborhood is faced with the same choices. Mr. Martinez, it's up to you. Care to give your establishment more visibility in the community while helping your community?

To the city fathers, protect us from ourselves: Don't cut the cops.
To the city fathers, protect us from disaster: Dont' cut the fire department.
To the city fathers, get to know what your citizens want in the way of services, and cut the expenses that your citizens don't deem necessary.

I was astonished to see money spent on the widening of GoG Rd between Centennial and 30th Ave when Agilent, Intel and Worldcom were reducing their workforces.

Our city fathers haven't been very good stewards with our tax dollars. Tax tax tax, spend spend spend and tax some more. Defecits in the name of "better living." But someday you have to pay the Piper, and today the Piper is demanding his pay.

City Fathers, make Colorado Springs a very unwelcome environment for gang activity. "Oh, those poor youths come from broken families." Those poor youths know right from wrong. Mr. DA, May, don't plea bargain charges away. Prosecute prosecute prosecute. Make the gang members move back to California because it's too hostile an environment.

CSPD - Bravo for the Cabs On Patrol. What a great way to use existing resources.

Change us from the call center of America to a producing center of America.

Not hiding behind an alias or initials, I am...

I call B.S. - the lights have nothing to do with this. I think they should turn off all of the streetlights. If you think you need one, pay the $75 or $100 per year to keep it on. Also, this is the type of situation that should make you think about ways to defend yourself against these crack head parasites. Can you say conceal carry? Welcome to the wild wild west.

Here's a quote from Larry Small in another CSBJ article: (http://csbj.com/2010/04/24/crisis-averted-despite-budget-cuts)

“When I drive around, I can’t see the difference,” said Vice Mayor Larry Small. “I think that we were significantly overlit. The city engineers may have been applying lighting standards that didn’t take common sense into consideration.” Guess Larry didn't drive through Gaspar Martinez's neighborhood.

Crisis Averted?

By the way, Larry, common sense tells you that most violent crimes occur at night. They are also more likely to occur in areas that are not well lit. This is why your home alarm system (I assume you have one) has a motion sensor that activates a flood light.

This type of short-sighted leadership WILL have long-term effects. The article (above) is from the Associated Press and is running in newspapers and websites all over the country. As we approach Summer, people won't visit Colorado Springs and businesses (who depend on tourism) will suffer. There are currently over 12,000 pages indexed in Google for the title of the article above.
