USOC, Comcast end Olympic channel talks

The USOC and Comcast have agreed to end last year’s agreement to launch an Olympic channel, according to Sports Business Daily.

The decision to walk away from last year’s agreement to launch an Olympic channel, brings an end to the USOC’s nearly four-year effort to launch its own network.

Discussions were abandoned after the USOC received criticism from the International Olympic Committee and when Comcast was getting ready to acquire NBC which operates its own Olympic-style channel in Universal Sports.

“The USOC and Comcast have decided it’s currently not the right time to create an Olympic channel,” said USOC Chief Communications Officer Patrick Sandusky.

Credit for the decision “signified a shift in direction at the USOC under new CEO Scott Blackmun and board chairman Larry Probst,” according to the sports news service.
